Join us in a literary quest to conquer Don Quixote.
We’ll read the Edith Grossman translation of Cervantes’ classic. Library members Joe Heyd and Mary Curran Hackett will lead the discussion, with help from a local expert on Spanish history and literature. Here’s the reading and discussion schedule:
  • September 10: Discussion of Harold Bloom’s introduction to the Edith Grossman edition of Don Quixote, along with a broad overview of the time period and culture in which Cervantes was writing. We’ll consider the things that influenced Cervantes as well as how and why the book became one of the world’s most celebrated pieces of literature.
  • October 8: Discussion of part one, pages 1-438
  • November 12: Discussion of part two, pages, 451-934
  • November 26: Impossible Dream Fete — a celebration of our accomplishment as well as a final discussion of themes, characters and the idea of the Impossible Dream
