Canon Club Season Kickoff
September 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm| $60.00 – $75.00
Movie Night in the Stacks
Romeo + Juliet, dir. Baz Luhrmann (1996)
We kick off our 2019-2020 season with Movie Night in the Stacks.
Back for a second year in a row, it’s movie night in the stacks! Canon Club is invited to gather for a film viewing. We’ll watch Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, starring Claire Danes as Juliet, Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo, and John Leguizamo as Tybalt. This film provides a nice contrast to CincyShakes’ park production of the play, which is performed in July and August. We’ll have a very brief post-film discussion of the adaptation. This is a great way to revisit a favorite play, or to try out Canon Club to see if you’re interested in joining.
Interested in just attending the kickoff? Call 513-621-0717 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to make a reservation. Register for the series via tickets.

About Canon Club:
One of the Library’s longest-running discussion groups—the Canon Club—completed its first journey through the Shakespeare’s 38-play canon in 2013. Working their way through the canon again, the club now also includes reading and discussion of canon-adjacent plays: those written by Shakespeare’s contemporaries. Expanding and enriching their notion of the canon, the club brings its knowledge of Shakespeare’s works to bear on plays that surround, intersect, and intervene in that canon. Joining many of the discussions are members of The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.
Led by Dr. Niamh J. O’Leary, Associate Professor of English at Xavier University
Canon Club meets Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 pm (Except where noted).
