Chic.lits
...fashionable friends of fine art, fine reading, and the Mercantile Library

In 2008 a group of book-loving women started the Chic.lits to support current literature events at the Mercantile Library. Many were already members of active, well-established book groups, so they were a perfect fit for the Merc. It was a stunning success. Now, the original Chic.lits are hoping you will join them as a sponsor of the library’s Modern Novel lecture series.

Chic.lit Book Discussion
June 7th, 2012 (6:00PM)
Liz Glassmeyer Residence. 3 Twin Hills Ridge Drive, Cincinnati, 45230
Free to current Chic.lits; $10 for others.
Author and University of Cincinnati associate professor Leah Stewart will compare and contrast Cathleen Schine's The Three Weissmanns of Westport with Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.

Leah Stewart is the author of three acclaimed novels: Body Of A Girl, The Myth of You and Me, and Husband and Wife. She is the recipient of a 2010 NEA Literature Fellowship and lives in Cincinnati with her husband and two children.
From Leah: "My favorite canonical books are Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, and Middlemarch. I reach Pride and Prejudice as a kid and have loved it ever since. Gatsby I failed to appreciate in high school, but in adulthood I've read it over and over. I didn't read Middlemarch until I was in my late twenties, due to an intense hatred of Silas Marner, which I also had to read in high school. By the way, my least favorite canonical book is The Grapes of Wrath, which I was assigned to read in high school, college, and graduate school. So I've had plenty of opportunity to shudder at that last scene."
Chic.lits charter member, Liz Glassmeyer, has graciously agreed to host us at her home. (3 Twin Hills Ridge Drive, 45230.)
Its' sure to be a lively and thought-provoking evening. Bring a friend to join in the fun! Please RSVP by June 5.
